The emergence of pink ice on the parts of Persena glacier of the Alps is getting investigated by the scientists of Italy. As per Biagio Di Mauro of Italy’s National Research Council, the appearance of pink snow may be attributed to the same plant found in Greenland i.e. Ancylonema nordenskioeldii.

Snow on glaciers are able to reflect most of the sunlight back to the atmosphere, this preventing its meltdown, but now the Algae, present over the snow, absorbs the radiation of the sun and further increases the melting of glaciers. And as the ice melts, it provides them water and air, which is crucial for their growth and thereby increasing in number rapidly. Thus, day by day environmental phenomena is getting worsened with unfavorable impact on lives of flora and fauna which we are witnessing nowadays.
